Very nice rooms with central location

Conveniently nestled in near Union Square and easily accessible by the Powell Street BART station, this is our favorite romantic get away locale. We've been many times now (and this is from seasoned travelers from the Rocky Mtns and South America). It is quaint to have the street cars climbing Powell below you. Older but very nice property and the staff is outstanding. Overall, the Larkspur properties (of which there are a few in the area) are outstanding. Highly recommended - enjoy your adventures here.

What a location. Clean, nice, quiet rooms. Not large but nice for a nights sleep. Good Valet Parking in Downtown SF. Close to Union Square. Loved this hotel. Will recommend to others, and will stay again. Nice resturant downstairs, great hotel.

Nice hotel overall for the price. Only one word of caution; Stay away from room service dining. Very expensive and suprisingly poor quality. The restaurants in the lobby area make for a much better experience.

We had a junior suite at this hotel which was so convenient for my husband and I, since he likes to watch TV and I like to read. The price of the junior suite was very reasonable and well worth the added expense!

My overall stay was satisfying but if you stay in a room by the street the noise level is very heavy. Suggest staying in a room facing the courtyard if your not used to city noise. Also I was a little disapointed that they gave away my king bed just before we checked in at 5pm, I over heard the receptionist talking and they miscommunicated on saving the room.

Villa Florence exceeded my expectations on service, style, location, atmosphere. I would only suggest that the bathroom size be increased. My son & I shared a 2-double bed room. There was plenty of space in the room and it had a huge closet, but I could barely get in or out of the bathroom and I'm not a large person. Everything else was fantastic. The staff were eager to please and extremely helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed our "night in the city" and would highly recommend this hotel to everyone I know.

I was a little nervous about the hotel after reading some of the reviews, but thankfully, I was very pleasantly surprised. I was there for one night, flying in late Thursday night, so that I could tour the city for a day before heading out to Palo Alto for a wedding. The location was fantastic for this - we literally walked out of hotel and started the sight seeing. The reviews are right about the rooms being small, but we didn't need a lot of space. The room and bathroom were very clean, well appointed, and recently renovated. I do recommend getting an inside room. We arrived very late and there were none available when we finally checked in - the outside room, even being on the 5th floor, was pretty noisy. Other than that, this is a great hotel at a great price.

Villa Florence is in a great location being just one half block from Union Square and right on the Powell Street cable car line. We love the convenience of everything in the city being so close to us. The staff at the hotel goes out of their way to extend every courtesy and help to you. This was our third stay in this hotel and we will be returning.

Couldn't understand why they were only 3 stars based on the pictures until we got there. The lobby is beautiful. And the picutres of the room are fantastic. We got a King sized room because we thought that would give a little more room but our bathroom was fit for barely one person. Check in is 3pm which seems a bit late to me. We were asked when we checked in for a "quiet inner room" or a "room with a city view". We stated we wanted the view but we got an inner room with the view of a disgusting wall/windows of other hotel patrons. It was really unattractive. I didn't even open the shutters once. The wallpaper was peeling in our room and our bed was sagging around our upper backs. At first it was kind of nice to have your feet elevated like that - but it's not good if you sleep on your stomach. It was still comfortable feeling and had nice touches to it but clearly needed some work. The pipes banged loudly when I went to take a shower. I could here everything going on next door - from them literally howling like wolves to talking about marijuana. Kinda kills that romantic couples getaway feel. Room service was not THAT expensive and their kids' grilled cheese meal is enought for two adults to share as a snack. The location could not have been more ideal. Steps to the BART and cable cars to the Fishermans's Wharf. Excellent shopping and dining venues at your doorstep. I would stay here again but I would raise a fuss if I didn't get the city view next time. It's extremely convienent and though it definitely needs some work it's still aesthetically pleasing for the most part.

We were very happy with Villa Florence. The hotel itself was very clean with many nice updated features. We had very professional service on our stay. Also loved the Hotel Bar. The hotel is centrally located and is right next to the cable car line.

The hotel room was very comfortable. We were surprised that the restaurant and room service food was exceptional. The Italian theme of the hotel was in everything they served from the wines to the food. This is not a bad thing. Just to let others know. The location was a challenge at night because of the transients hanging around the area.

Villa Florence is a wonderful boutique hotel on Powell close to Union Square and just a couple of blocks from Market Street and the BART. The lobby is beautiful with a nice wine bar and a good restaurant inside; the rooms are bigger than I expected for this location and price, nicely furnished and very comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel for the Nike Womens marathon and it was a perfect location. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Couldn't have asked for anything more.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Villa Florence. We stay in San Francisco often but had not stayed at this particular hotel. It will now be added to our list of regulars. It is right in Union Square and within walking distance of most things in the city.

We picked this by the reviews and location and we were not disappointed.

small but very clean room with complimentary coffee on it. directly located at the union square. you can park your car at the union square or the ellis o´farrell garage; it´s just a few meters.

especially from a tourist point of view. union sqr 1/2 block etc. If noise is an issue for you, ask for an interior room to alleviate any possibility of cable car noise from Powell Street.

Everything about the hotel was good except for the street noise beginning at about 5am. Request an inside room.

Great place to stay, very clean, hotel workers are friendly and attentive.

stayed at this hotel in March and looked forward to returning but this October booking was much more expensive! Did not feel "worth it." Was assigned to a tight little room with no view and food smell Asked and was immediately given a larger room. (good customer service) Bed was not at all comfortable. And while there was nothing to complain there was also nothing to praise. Next visit to San Francisco will not be spent here.

Villa Florence was an outstanding hotel. The junior suite that we stayed in was very homey and comfortable. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful with directions and recommendations. For instance, we were going to walk a certain route, and the woman suggested a different route,more scenic and safe, and she was correct. The only complaint that I have is that the bathroom vanity is quite smallish so no room for your toiletries. The robes that are furnished were sooo nice I felt like buying one!! Would definately stay there again.

Due to a concert in the area, I wanted to find a hotel that was close, yet, comfortable. The prices were very reasonable for the quality type of hotel that this hotel is rated. The lobby is exquisite...then you get to your room and you can barely fit in the door, barely walk around the bed and barely sit on the toilet without hitting your knees on the wall. The first room that I was given was not even cleaned and they had to move me to another room which late in the evening was somewhat aggravating. If you just need a place for the night to lay your head and its last minute, go for it. But, if you are planning a nice weekend, KEEP LOOKING!

The overall hotel was nice, the lobby is very nice. I hoped the room would be much more spacious. The queen room was very small, but the bathroom was very nice. I was hoping for a microwave in the room, but there was not one. The valet took about 20-30 minutes to bring our car. Overall, however, the hotel is very nice.

A Wonderful find right off Union Square in SF. They also had a great restaurant located off the lobby and street that made you feel like you could have been in Italy from their menu. A very charming gem nestled among all the larger hotels

This hotel was OK. It is located in the Union Station area, walking distance to convention center, but also quite a bit of noise from the street and adjacent rooms. Hotel was fine for the amount of time spent there but would not rush to stay again.

Very trendy but elegant hotel with a great restaurant and excellent location. Walking distance from many touristy areas including china town. Loved it!

Favorite stay in SF! Boutique, European feel without any snottiness. They make note of and act on special requests (ex: interior room to avoid street noise). Even if some of the rooms are a tad tired, all have super comfy beds w/ flat panel TVs. New room service for breakfast is a nice add (great coffee) w/ complimentary paper.

I booked this hotel fairly late (about 3 weeks before our stay) based on some good reviews that I read online and the very reasonable price (50% off the regular price). It's always difficult to know what to expect in reality when you book a hotel without seeing it - we were over the moon when we arrived and saw how nice the hotel was. The Villa Florence suited us perfectly for our stay - it is in a prime position for all the transport networks - a few minutes walk from the railway station, a minute's walk from the main street with many bus routes, and the cablecar passes right outside the hotel. It is also steps away from many shops and restaurants, including the big department stores on Union Square. We received great service from the staff at the hotel - when we arrived our room wasn't ready and still wasn't ready when we returned after 15 minutes as requested. The reception staff were very apologetic and put us in another room and gave us a voucher for 2 complimentary breakfasts. All through our week's stay they were very helpful with information and advice on directions and activities - our room was beautiful, quite spacious and very comfortable. We couldn't have been more happy with our hotel, especially considering the reduced price that we paid on Hotels.com. Thanks to everyone at Villa Florence - I'm sure we will we be back and will recommend the hotel to all our friends!

Be sure to ask for an inside room, as the cable car runs till late and starts early. Room was small, shower a little on the dingy side. Bathroom was so small that your leg rubbed on the toliet paper holder when you went to the bathroom. Not enough outlets for electronics, which was an inconvenience.

We're local, and only at the last minute decided to spend the night in SF after going to the theater, so our reservation was made very last minute. When we checked in, the only glitch was that their computer system was down, so we were first put in a room that already had a guest then had to wait for about 15 minutes for them to find us another room BUT we were also given a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience. Great location to walk to theaters and restaurants. We'd definitely stay here again...short notice and all!

Great hotel. Great service. Very accommodating. Can't ask for a better location...only concern is street noise. If you get a room facing the street, be prepared for the melodious sounds of the city. Under normal circumstances, bring it on. Got sick during the trip though, so sounds were a bit much.
