This was a great choice to be able to walk to what we had hoped to see in DC. I only wish it had not been raining. It was only one night but it was a good night's sleep and after a nice breakfast we were back on the road. Sorry we didn't get to use the outdoors courtyard. Nice to have CVS next door.

We were most pleased with our visit to the hotel. The service was excellent and the staff was very helpful. The room was very comfortable, and the only suggestion would be that privacy curtains be made available on the window. I had booked five rooms for one night for members of an out-of-town performing ensemble. When I arrived, I was upgraded without additional charge to a suite on the 7th floor, a floor I later learned had recently been renovated. This is one of the nicest hotels spaces I have ever seen. It was spacious, clean, nicely decorated, with desk, dining table, […] kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and small foyer where one could set up an ironing board. The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal: right in the heart of George Washington University buildings, with many restaurants in the immediate vicinity and the Kennedy Center within easy walking distance. At first I was concerned that the many fraternity buildings on the same block would be noisy, but this proved not to be the case (on a Saturday evening in May). When I asked the four other members of the performing ensemble what their more modest rooms had been like, they were all as enthusiastic as I was, though they had not been in suites but in single rooms. The location was perfect since my daughter is a student at George Washington University. The staff was nice and the property very clean. The only problem I had was the building next door seemed to have older people hanging out. They appeared to be homeless people who were walking around picking up cigarette butts. Normally I'm not very particular about these things, but the sheets were actually almost sticky with fabric softener - very bizarre texture that was off-putting. While the room itself was big, it showed a good deal of wear. The hotel was great. Staff was awesome. There is a smal restaurant in the hotle which we found very convienient. Food was good too and not too pricey. The neighborhood was awesome adn we walked everywhere. Would definitly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was an affordable option in the Foggy Bottom section of DC in the heart of the GWU campus. Approx 3 blocks from the Metro station, a Starbucks, and Founding Farmers-a great restaurant! Staff was friendly, rooms comfy. Once inside try and remember if you are on the E or F street side of the building!

This is an older hotel. The bed was too soft and the pillows were terrible. For the proce we paid for this hotel I dont get why we had to pay for parking on top of it. I am not sure I would stay in this hotel again.

This is a hidden gem for the business or leisure traveler. Located near the mall and Georgetown University, and a few short (and safe) blocks away from the Foggy Bottom Metro, the State Plaza has a European feel. The rooms are immaculate and well-maintained, free WiFi is offered, and there is a 24-hour CVS next door for any snacks/sundries/supplies […] that might be needed. The F Street Bistro serves delicious meals throughout the day/evening, and the happy hour, with its $4 cocktails, is not to be missed. Rooms are spacious for DC and have kitchenettes with full-size fridge, sink, rangetop, coffee maker, and toaster. There is a Whole Foods across the street from the Metro, so if you want an economical breakfast or lunch at your small kitchen table, there is no problem. Nice neighborhood and very nice accomodations at first glance BUT. . . no heat!? (62 deg. in room), leaky toilet, Haphazard, hard to regulate hot water at best. They finally came through with a plug-in electric heater but it still took hours to raise heat to 68 in ONE room, never mind whole suite. My room was across the elevator, but it was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was outrageously priced and not great. Should be included with the cost of the room. Location is excellent, but not a place that I would stay again if I return to DC.

Professional front desk staff and nice greeting. Room was ready, and our email request to be co-located with friends was met. Nice area amid the George Washington University buildings. Confirmed reservation was for king bed, but our room had 2 queen beds. Separate kitchenette did not have the microwave as quoted in the reservation, and the cookware/dishware […] provided was absolute minimum for 2 people. The refridgerator was a family-size 2 door, and there was a coffee maker and 4-ring gas top. Plenty of scope for improvement and modernisation in both the bathroom and kitchen. There is a Pharmacy adjacent for essentials, and bus stop very close (staff did not know mimimum fares-$1.80) but a 15 minute walk to metro and good choice of restaurants. We (in our 60's) walked to the main Washington places of interest too.Recommended for couples who like walking, and don't mind boiling water in a saucepan to make a cup of tea. Lisätietoja

The rooms are basically one bedroom apartments. Very dated looking. The beds and pillows were very hard.

Loved the location, room was clean. Our only complaint was the room was very hot. We put the ac on and when returning to our room it was still hot I called the front desk they stated the hotel is on one ventilation system and that the ac would not work until the entire heat unit was turned off. They said to open the windows. My daughter suffers from […] severe allergies and we can not do this. Never have I heard of this before. Great location and accomodations. Not only is it close to GWU, where my son goes, but it's walking distance to Lincoln Memorial and White House.

I pretty love the location of this hotel. It's closed to many travel sights, and the restaurants in the neighbourhood are pretty good. Only complain is the bathroom: water temperature was not stable, and drainage was slow. Other than that, we quite enjoy our stays in this hotel

This hotel is in a pretty good location. A short walk from the metro and short walk to the Mall. Only small downside is that it is basically on George Washington University campus so Saturday night was a little noisy. Room was comfortable and the bed was very comfortable. Not a lot of frills but overall a good experience.

I booked a room that was supposed to have a king bed and kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave). When I got to my room, there was only a toaster and coffee pot. I called the front desk to ask to switch the room and they tried to tell me I received an upgrade. How is a room without a kitchen an upgrade for a room with a kitchen? They said they would see […] if they had anything else available and hung up on me. Fifteen minutes later, I didn't hear from them so I called the front desk again (the elevators are ridiculously slow). Another woman picked up and was also very curt. On arrival the hotel looks impressive with decor and furniture in sync with the stately characteristics of the city. The doormen are prompt, friendly and helpful. Reception varies from person to person, but overall professional and very helpful but the lobby restroom an inconvenient walk via a smelly carpark. Housekeeping could have been better with hairs a different colour to mine in bath, and spills from prior guest in the kitchenette. Can buy food from a minimart/drug store almost next door. Starbucks and Subway on next block. We stayed here for four days as we toured the Capitol. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I loved having a kitchenette in the room. The water pressure was awesome. The metro station was 4 blocks away and the walk was through the GWU campus and felt safe even at night. I would stay there again. The free wifi was ok but not great.

The hotel was clean, quiet, and conveniently located for my business purposes and conference attendance. The front desk staff were amazing and very friendly. Two things I disliked... first, their "fitness room" is nothing more than a very small room (no windows) that is too hot, too cramped, and two claustrophobic. There were three cardio machines (two […] treadmills and one bike)... and that's all there was. No weights, no space to stretch, and it was HOT in there with no air circulation. Secondly, there is construction going on across the street and while it is not their fault, the street lights were not working on either side of the street and it was uncomfortable walking to the hotel after dark. Turned out to be a good choice overall Proximity to tourist sites Foggy Bottom GeorgeTown GW Univ busses metro and a nice bar and restaurant on site. Small kitchen was a plus also for making snacks and keeping supplies in the fridge.

The folks working in the State Plaza Hotel are some of the nicest and most helpful I have ever encountered. The Hotel is near the major monuments and relatively quiet. I was able to walk to every place I wanted to see at a leisurely pace. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay. I had stayed at the State Plaza many years ago and was not impressed at the time. I did not, however, regret my decision to give it another try recently. To my delight, I found that the hotel had been significantly refurbished. My room was spacious and, except for the carpet, was quite clean and well appointed. The State Plaza was in a great location for my recent business trip, which is the primary reason I booked it, that, and the price. First, the good news: the room was gigantic, including the kitchen, the living room and the comfortable bedroom. A little drab and worn, but clean, so no issues there (well, curtains on some of the windows would have been […] nice since people in adjacent building could see in.) The staff, except for one unhelpful front desk person, was terrific, and pleasant. (Note to one of the bellman: The monuments are NOT an 8 minute walk away, and I walk fast. Try 30 minutes). Now the not so good news. First problem: Late coming in from work, I was going to shower and race to a dinner appointment. I went to put the water on in the shower, and discovered the cold water tap was broken. I had to wash in the sink, including an attempt to wash my hair. I reached for the hair dryer -- nowhere to be found. Effort was made to straighten things out, but not a great start to my stay. The K Bistro restaurant breakfast was not appetizing at all, so I found a Dunkin' Donuts instead. Tried Bistro again for lunch -- two burgers, two drinks, one coffee, well over $40. Ridiculous, even for a hotel restaurant, and one with zero ambience. I would consider staying there again, but might look for hotel a little closer to restaurants. Lisätietoja

We had a group of 8 traveling, my wife and I with an infant, so booked a king suite figuring we could use the pull out bed and let another party get sleep. The others in our party booked a 2 queen bed room. Having the kitchenette, especially with the infant, was very convenient. First impressions- a bit disappointing. The hotel could use a major update. […] It was very clean however, and the staff was excellent. After the first night, I went and bought a queen sized air mattress for my wife and I to sleep on rather than the pull out. I have no problem with sleeping on pull outs- HOWEVER, this might have been a sheet draped over the coil springs. The furniture, baths, decor was VERY dated- but again- just a place to sleep, so it worked. Others wanted to stay in DC, trying to find a 1 or 2 bedroom suite was difficult, so the State Plaza was our option. I was trying to convince others to stay outside of DC, but close to the metro. We ended up using the metro (10 minute walk), more often than they thought. There were local bars/restaurants that were close enough to stumble our way home from- but you'd find that anywhere. Overall- for staying in DC, walking distance to the Mall, it wasn't a bad place to stay. If you want comfort and convenience on a budget, find another hotel that's within 2 blocks of the metro- blue/orange line. You don't really need to be within walking distance to sites to begin with as you'll be doing plenty of walking at your intended stop. Lisätietoja

The hotel is walking distance to the Mall and Foggy Bottom metro station. The rooms were old, but well maintained and immaculately clean. Unfortunately, due to its proximity to 2 hospitals and the location of our room (above the dumpsters and loading docks), sleep was hard to come by. The hotel is in a terrific location for anyone visiting the GW campus. The two entrances are a little odd and the pillows extremely uncomfortable - way too large.
