Since Affinity Gaming has purchased this property, you can see some slow improvements to the physical property. The upper floors of the garage were closed, making parking a nightmare. The rooms continue to be a great value for the dollar, and the location of the hotel is convenient for just about anything you want to do in downtown Reno. This property […] continues to have a "human capital" problem in that their staff on the most part continues to be unskilled, and sometimes rude. I booked this because of price, the ratings and the pictures. The hotel rooms are nothing like the pictures! But I think there may be two towers, one very old and one newer. I arrived at midnight on a Friday and I think I was stuck into the old tower and I was too tired to complain. The windows were old and I could hear every car and the train right […] below go by. The room was big but has not been updated since maybe 1980's? The AC was an older unit and very loud. If you do stay here, confirm there is a newer tower and make sure you are getting book into it. We have stayed at the Sands before but this stay was not good. The room smelled like old man cologne and a week later my back is still killing me from the bed I slept in one night.

Elevators didn't work half the time. Service of getting checked in was very impersonal, and at checkout the next morning, nobody was at the checkout desk with a line of about 20 people waiting. Rooms were very drab, with very old TV sets. Couldn't access any PPV movies or channels, just whatever cable was offered. Had to get to airport by 5 AM. so just looking for a place to lay our heads for a few hours.......pulled up to register and while sitting in my car, noticed two older women, walking into casino/hotel.. Hookers. Next, standing at counter waiting my turn, the patrons around me were mostly loud and either drunk or on drugs. The behaviors were odd to say […] the least. I go to check in and they wanted a 75 dollar deposit for the room incase of damages.. WHAT? I guess lots of guest have thrashed rooms. What kind of people stay here I asked? Never mind, I get it. I was told the Sands was updated and it shows. The casino was clean and so was the room. The floor had some spots but that was about it. Just silly how the Sands charges you an extra $10 a night for the refrigerator or Internet.

The room was modest but comfortable and clean. It appeared to be in an older section of the hotel that had been renovated. It was simple but definitely acceptable and a great price. I enjoyed my stay. This was my second visit. We were here for the Bowling National Tournament both trips.

When I checked in, I was one one of 2 people in line. There were 3 or 4 agents there but they didn't bother to stop whatever was so important to check me in. The room was very smoke free, clean, and nice for what I payed. However, unless you want to die of second hand smoke you might not want to hang out in the casino. It was OK. The furniture is a little dated and the shower curtain a little threadbare. The water temperature in the shower did not stay constant. It would go from very hot to very cold and back to hot without any adjustment. The location is good and the casino was acceptable.

It was a run down hotel. We had spider webs on the wall in our room, when we pulled up there were cops everywhere, and one day in the AM we were about to leave a truck parked right behind us. We were trying to figure out what was going on, come to find out it was a woman getting dropped off, she was getting money for her services so she can go inside […] to gamble. It was horrible. Rooms were dirty, TV was on a pole, shower curtain was too short for the tub and every time we showered water would spray out flooding our bathroom. The beds were very hard. There was for both nights of our stay constant late night noise that made a solid and uninterrupted night's sleep impossible

Well first of all. I smoke and I found the place to smell very bad of smoke. I was in a no smoking room. They charge for everything. Internet was 9.95 for the evening. I can say wow. The room was very avg. The sink was cracked, the toilet ran all night long, caulking on the tub was needed. Just needed some tlc. The room was cheap, but I guess you get […] what you pay for. The hotel still took $75.00 from my credit card?? Now I have to wait 3-9 days to get it back. This was an unexpected charge and not convenient at all for me and my limited budget!!!

I was put in a pet room for my first two nights. I would think they would ask me my preference when checking in as there was quite a big difference between pet & non-pet rooms. The room I switched to was much better. This is a smokey, lower-class casino. Not impressed. Breakfast at Mel's was great!

All hotel staff were very helpful & curtious. Took a trip to OR & stayed there both coming & going & would definitely stay there again.

Check in OK, access little difficult for handicapped person. Room OK. Rate on card diffferent than on internet and surcharge for transfer of funds when I checked in.

The Sands underwent some upgrades since we last stayed there. We go once a year for a wrestling tournament. The rooms were very clean and quite comfortable. The staff was courteous and helpful. As usual, since it is a casino, the smoke was inevitable but with the new look it gave the place a different feel. They have a new restaurant called "Big Daddys", […] it has awesome mexican food. We enjoyed the room and hotel but the people who wander around the area are kind of spooky. There was a shooting one street over and appeared to be very little security outside. Not much the hotel can do about downtown Reno problems.

We loved the shower and wanted to bring it home, the water pressure and quality of the spray nozzle was very relaxing. The wall paper in the bathroom however, needs to be updated or at the very least cleaned. I loved having a place for my dog to do his business and it was even better to have the baggies and trash can for easy disposal of said business. […] The directions of how to get to the dog area could have been on the map and easier to locate. I think most dogs need to use the facilities pretty shortly after a car ride and it took a while for us to find the right place. Having the restraunts in the hotel was very convenient, we especially enjoyed Mels Diner. We thought it was a bit inconvenient that the Copa was closed the entire time we stayed. We really wanted to try it. The Sands Buffet was pretty good. Decent variety and nicely priced. An indoor pool or at least a hot tub would have been really nice.
