Spent two nights in American Dinesen. They service was a little grumpy, almost like they didn't enjoy speaking to tourists. Which is odd being a hotel in venice. The rooms were okay, but all in all the front courted service was a litte disappointing. I think it was over priced for what it was.

Hotel staffs are exceptionally helpful. My room was marvellous and very enjoyable. Having free WIFI throughout the hotel is a wonderful plus. Hotel is just a 100 meters away from the Grand Canal and offers one of the best scenic spots for photographs. Location is just slightly off busy tourist tracks and hence enjoys the quiescence and yet convenience. There is a Gondola hiring just in-front of the hotel. A few minutes walk from academia and the Peggy Guggenheim was this average hotel on a quiet canal. A comfortable, clean and welcoming hotel in a pretty area within reasonable walking distance of the main attractions. We had a large room (201) with balconies overlooking a pretty side canal that was warm/cosy despite February weather. The heating was fully adjustable but the shower, although useable, was weak/not enclosed. A good choice fresh cold […] buffet with decent coffee/cappuccino for breakfast 7:30 to10:00 am was included in price. The location is quiet and felt safe as is all of Venice, even in the back alleys/remote squares. The staff were helpful and pleasant and made our stay very relaxing. Free wifi access and use of a computer/printer was very convenient, particularly for advanced checking in for our flight home. The Aliluguna company (has good web site/info/maps/ advanced tickets at reduced rate) water bus from the airport was efficient and dropped us off at Ca' Rezzonico on the Grand Canal which was about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. However, as with anywhere in Venice, be prepared to cross two canals by small bridges. The Aliluguna Orange route which we used, had the added bonus of cruising down almost the full length of the Grand Canal under the Rialto Bridge. The hotel is also only a few minutes walk from the Accademia vaporetto stop (although we didn't need to use it) giving full access to all other parts of Venice including The Lido and outlying Islands of Murano. Small but adequate double room - only one chair provided, but there was space for a second. A balcony chair was available. Ample breakfast on each of six days spent in the hotel, but during the busy weekend period, space in the dining room was at a premium, and staff were hard pushed to cope. All members of staff were friendly and very helpful.

Hotel very well situated. Not in the busiest part, but plenty nearby and close to the Vaporetto stop. We had to work hard to make the room cool (heating very effective) and this in mid December.

Our room was TINY but quiet. The bathroom was very nice, the water hot. Breakfast was just fine, and the service from our the breakfast staff and the concierge, was excellent. We very much liked being in this neighborhood. Not as crowded, great places to eat, very pretty, quite near the vaporetto stop.

The hotel stay was absolute fabulous. Enjoyed everything about the hotel...it's cleanliness, the staff, "Pablo" (the dog), the food. It was close to everything...shopping, site seeing, travel from place to place. My family and I would definitely stay there again. We had two small children with us and they were very welcomed!

Great location from the water bus as well as other locations. Rooms a bit smaller than we are used to especially for the price. There were 4 of us (2 adults, 2 teens). Really helpful and friendly staff in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Location fantastic for exploring Venice. This place was great. The price, pics and reviews drew us in. I have to admit, we were wary of going to a Hotel that had American in the title thinking that it would be some sort of Americanized hotel. It wasn't. The Hotel and location was very good for visiting Venice , The only fault I had was that we had a double bed which was made up of two single beds which made an uncomfortable gap between the beds. The Hotel staff and continental breakfast was excellent. I would certainly stay there again

We spent 3 nights at this hotel, we were warmly greeted upon our arrival and allowed to check in prior to check in time. I paid a bit more for a canal view room and it was well worth it. Breakfast was pretty good, mostly cold items, staff very friendly. Would definately stay there again.

The hotel was in a great location, just 2-3 minute walk from the Accademia bridge/water bus stop. The hotel itself was good, but not great. It clearly had seen some wear and tear, but nothing was wrong. I would say it would be similar in quality to a Holiday Inn Express that was 7-8 years old, except smaller rooms and with Venetian decorations. Coffee, croissant, bread, yogurt, meat and cheese, cereal, etc. Food was of decent quality and would not be an issue if staying a day or two. It would have been nice to have some other options such as scrambled eggs, oatmeal cereal, smoked salmon, more cheese variety (instead of just 1 sliced cheese), more meat variety (ham and 1 type of salami), etc. Venice was great and there were a couple of really good restaurants within 5-10 minute walk that we found on trip advisor. I stayed here for a long weekend with family. The hotel was incredibly central - just a few minutes walk from the main sights, but still in a quiet area. I spent a weekend at the Hotel American Dinesen, and have only positive things to say about the staff, which were very helpful and friendly (and rather unusually in my experience, all spoke good english), and about the location, which is very close to the sights but just far enough away from Rialto and Piazza San Marco to be a bit of a refuge when your […] wiped out by the crowds. My room (a budget option, although I am sure not all of the rooms have such views) had three tall windows with small ledges/balconies overlooking one of the smaller canals, which was also nice. On the downside, the hotel appointments are a bit dated/worn and the room (a double) was a bit cramped. While I would not rate this as one of the noisier hotels I have stayed in, there was a little bit of noise at times when people on floors above used the shower or toilet. (This seems to be a common issue in many hotels throughout Venice - noisy water pumps or the like). Still, these negatives are pretty minor to me and easily outweighed by the positives. Lisätietoja

The dining room was also short staffed for breakfast so either tables weren't clean and there was no place to sit or the coffee machine was broken and you had to wait until you could find a staff member to give you breakfast. Nice little hotel in a convenient location in Dorsoduro, away from the crowds. Room was small but nicely decorated and very clean with a modern bathroom. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

After arriving via water shuttle, the hotel was very close to the Accademia stop. Even though the hotel didn't have an elevator, the hotel staff brought our bags up to the room and refused to be tipped! The hotel also had a great view and was located just across the bridge from a nice little piazza.

Charming "old style" rooms (only a few with canal views) with well-renovated bathrooms. Clean and well-decorated corridors and interiors. The Guggenheim and the Accademia are very short walks away, as is a vaporetto station. Staff quite helpful. Serve-yourself continental breakfast quite plain and lacking in variety.
