The Edison Hotel - New York 40.75957, -73.98539

Great location but rooms are small and need updating. Good bar for catching a quick beer and very close to tourist attractions. I would recommend for someone who prefers location over amenities. I hear it has been sold and an upscale boutique hotel is planned.

We loved NYC and found the edison to be comfortabe and friendly. The not free shuttle to JFK was fairly priced and on time. The Italian restaurant out the back door , to the right about a half block or less is AWESOME. Great pizza ,the best lasagna ever and friendly service. The booths for halfway broadway tix right around the corner. No microwaves in room.

The hotel was beautiful and attendants were polite. The room was a bit small for the amount paid, but expected due to the convenient location. The water/heating pipe located in the restroom was extremely loud and kept us awake throughout the night and during the day when we were in our room. The loud non stop banging was very similar to that of street construction. Although we called and complained to the front desk several times we were told nothing could be done and no other rooms were available. We checked out on Sunday very excited at the thought of not having to spend another night in that particular room and being able to return home for a bit of peace and quiet. After all the complaints we received no apologies for our discomfort nor discounts. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel was awful. I travel for work regularly to NYC and will never book this hotel again. The room was miniscule by comparison to others where I have stayed. The furnishings were old, worn, outdated, and did not look clean. It was very depressing, so I left. I couldn't stay there.

The prices was right and you have to consider that when comparing against others in the area. The real complaint would be the size of the bathroom. It was so small I was bumping into myself. Otherwise the hotel/room was fine for the business visit I was on. Would consider other hotels next time though.

Old style, art deco hotel. Tiny bathrooms, plain rooms, but half block from Broadway in heart of Times Square. Loved location and staff was very friendly and helpful.

Needs improvement about the room: the bathromm is very small and the room too,the forniture are old.But The hotel is very close to time square and it is good for a quickly trip in New York.

I recently started traveling for work and stay in NYC at hotels several nights a month. This hotel is in need of a complete makeover. The place is run down and tired looking. The reception and lobby areas were a zoo. You literally had to climb over waiting luggage to get tot he front desk to check in. The room was tiny by comparison with other hotels I have stayed at in the city. Bedding, carpet, drapery and tv all out dated, tired looking, almost shabby. Neon lighting overhead when you enter the room. I didn't mind the old tile bathroom fixtures, which were kind of funky, but this place was so depressing that we left after 1/2 hour and checked into another hotel across the street. It was more expensive, but worth it.

This hotel is in a great location if you want to be at the center of Times Square and do not spend allot of time in your room. The staff was friendly and quick however the rooms were somewhat small and could use an update; you have to pay for ice.

You can't beat this location and overall it was a great hotel. The rooms are a little small, especially the bathroom, but to be expected. I would definitely stay here again.

because I went through Hotels.com, the room was on a floor that was being renovated as each time I dealt with the front desk, they commented on that fact and the room represented the same. The hotel staff were pleasant and responsive and you can not beat the location.....I will stay there again just for that reason. How much time do you spend in your room anyway??

We stayed at The Edison hotel and attended the Thanksgiving Parade. The Hotel is in need of updating but the room was nice size and comfortable the bathroom is small. The hotel is old and the furniture is mismatched but very clean. The hotel is 1/2 a block from center of Times square. I was surprised that you have to ask for ice and you get charged but it was only 50 cents they also charge you 50 cents to hold your luggage not a lot but strange to me. If you want to use the computers you do have to pay. They parked my car 3 blocks away and because of the parade they could not get it over to me until all the roads were opened so they offered to credit back the $48 parking fee if I wanted to walk over to get my car. Who wouldn't walk 3 blocks for $48? I would stay again for the price.

Great location! Really fantastic location! On Times Square, near Restaurant Row, 5th Ave, Central Park, etc. However, the room was so/so - clean but run down. Service was satisfactory and we were pleased overall.

Old hotel that has not been renovated in decades. The non-smoking room smelled like tobacco. The last day we came back from breakfast 10 minutes past the checkout time and they very unfriendly said they would charge half day if we didn't check out in the next 5 minutes. They charge us 50 cents for each suitcase deposit! I know, it's ridiculous but why?

For the price we paid and seeing other reviews, this hotel far exceeded my expectations. It was located right off Times Square so it was very convenient for us out-of-towner's! We really enjoyed our stay and would most definitely stay there again!

Edison is an older hotel, but I loved it - character, style, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Comfortable rooms, spacious. Bathroom was smallish, but so what? Excellent experience overall!!

Hotel was clean and very convenient to surrounding attractions. I was slightly taken aback by the size of the hotel room, but from what I understand hotel rooms in New York City are alot smaller than in other cities.

Knowing what I know about NYC hotel rooms, I was expecting a very small room with no view or even no window. I was pleasently surprised that it was a nice sized room with all the normal ammenities. We even had a big window with a view and I didn't pay extra to get it. A couple of times we called to get another blanket & pillows and they promptly got them to us. The front desk was curtious. The bell men were quick to respond to our requests. The only negitive thing I can say is that the bathrooms were very small and old. There was no fan to circulate the air and it had this hot pipe (I guess you could call it) right by the sink that emitted this heat and made it too hot to be in at times but we dealt with it. I would stay again because the location was GREAT for the price of the room!

Perfect location but furniture in room needs updating; doors prevented more than one person to view the TV and that was achieved by sitting on the bed; water came directly out of one shower faucet instead of straight down like the rest. Pleasant lobby and only charged 50 cents per bag to hold for the day.

I wasn't sure what to expect from The Edison Hotel, based on the mixed reviews here. But wanting an affordable hotel in the Times Square area, I decided to take a chance. I was very pleasantly surprised. Let me first state that "old" does not mean "dirty". This is an older hotel featuring older furniture and decor. But our room was spacious and exceptionally clean. Beds were amazingly comfortable. Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. And if you want to be in the heart of Times Square, this is the place to be. The Edison is a charming hotel with much history. It's convenient to everything. We had a delicious breakfast in the Edison Cafe. I was extremely pleased with The Edison Hotel and will most definitely stay there again.

close to times square and nice quiet hotel Restaurant was closed at time of our stay due to health inspection regulations but was open on our last day of stay so we had breakfast there. It would be nice if they could do a breakfast deal for families similiar to the hampton inn group. Big spacious rooms and very comfortable beds.

The location was perfect. But you get what you pay for. There were no light switches in the rooms. The Bathroom needs to be updated terribly!!! Besides that, it was okay. If you need a place to sleep and dont care about the bells and whistles you get from other hotels then stay there.

Very well situated near Times Square-- staff was efficient and polite and service was very good. Condition of the hotel was slightly run down--furnishings and paint somewhat old. Along with a good location went a lot of outside street noise--pretty loud until 12 midnight

I like the location of this Hotel. It's an old building, but is taken care of. Rooms are small but I didn't go to NYC to spend time in the room. On Times Square in the Theatre District. The tub wasn't as clean as I would have liked. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

This was perfect for my brief stay in NYC. The hotel was conveniently located. The room was small, but we didn't care cause we only needed it to sleep.

The Edison may be the best-located hotel in New York City for the price, directly adjacent to Times Square. It's not fancy, but has a nice lived-in feel and was more than adequate for my needs, traveling alone and staying for a long weekend.

The photos on website are entirely misleading. The hotel was old and extremely dirty. I booked a queen suite and the room was the size of any regular sized room for other hotels. The bathroom is ridiculously small, there was barely any walking space. There was a funny smell and barely any kind of ventilation in the room. The front desk and parking service was horrible. If I know what I need to do then I won't need to pay for their service. The location was excellent in that it was located in the middle of time square and the house keeping staff was very polite and nice. Other than those two factors, this hotel is not worth the money at all.

The hotel doesn't offer things that other hotels offer, like making coffee in the room or fancy bottles of shampoo or lotion. What it offers is its location - smack in the middle of the theater district. We could walk to most of the shows we had booked and didn't worry if the show ran late. Restaurants were also plentiful around the area so there were no worries about where to get food at any hour of the day. My only problem is that fact that the wireless connection is NOT free. That's pretty lame in this day and age where wireless can be had for free almost anywhere you go. The minute you're in your room, though, you pay. Otherwise, our stay was comfortable even though the lobby was always mobbed. We know why.

Stayed with children. Can't beat location to Times Square and area attractions. Busy lobby gave it the NYC energy.

The location can't be beat. And, from the doorman to the front desk to the lounge--the folks working there are the best. The building, however, is a dump. My room had exposed wiring, dirty carpets, a hole in the wall the size of a tennis ball in the bathroom, and leaky faucets. The small room I can deal with; the condition of the room and the bed (the bedding is also circa 1930) leave me no alternative but to never stay there again nor recommend the Edison to friends (no matter how economical).

If you're in the city and only planning to sleep while enjoying the treats of the town, this is an excellent value. Staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and the location in regards to theatre/arts can't be beat.

Older hotel, in good location for sights and night life.

Hotel is a little run down but is clean. I have no issues with the cleanliness of my room or bathroom. Did have a discounted room close to elevators, but noise was minimal and I am a light sleeper. Have to be quick to catch elevators when going from room floors to lobby as the doors close quickly and others on elevator don't hold it. I mean run when you see the down light go on. Because there is a hallway that extends from the hotel main entrance on 47th street all the way back to 46th street, and because there is a similar cut through from 46th to 45th, it is possible to get to the theaters on 45th street without walking more than a few feet on the sidewalks. This is great if it is raining or you are running late. Great little cafe attached to hotel with quick service and very reasonably priced and tasty food. Easy walk down 8th to Port Authority. Close to Times Square. This is where I'll stay from now on when I go into the city for a play or show. Great find.

The Edison is a quality hotel, featuring good service, security, and cleanliness. When I go again, I will request a room above the 10th floor, at least, as we were on the third floor, and as we all know, NY streets are quite noisy all night long. The adjoining cafe is very nice, also. If going to New York Times Square, you could not stay at a better location than The Edison. All of the theaters are within walking distance, as well as the complete excitement of Times Square.

The hotel is very conveniently located to Time Square and the Theatre District but it's a very antiquated structure with exceptionally small rooms, small beds (full not queen in our room) , lousy mattresses and dim lighting. The proximity to Time Square led to a lot of noise at night which, because of the window air conditioners which let noise in, made sleep difficult. We ended up running the air the next two nights to help drown out the noise. The staff was efficient but curt. I don't think one staff member smiled the entire four days I was there. There is a guard at the elevators who checks for room keys and, while I appreciate the security, the guards were rude and treated guests like intruders. Of course, the price was very competitive. I witnessed a number of conversations at the front desk which were unnecessarily rude and abrupt to the guests. The staff needs some major training and attitude adjustment. I would not stay here again despite its proximity and competitive pricing .

for some reason they stuck me with two single beds, my head was on the headboard and my feet were hanging off, lol, i checked in at 5pm and it still took them 15mins to find me a room

Busy weekend yes, but 2 people behind the counter to check in guests? Ridiculous. Dried blood on the hideaway blanket? Great. Hideaway springs also caused severe pain the next day. The suite was plenty large though and the bathroom was fine. And after the blood (or dried dark-red liquid...)was discovered, housekeeping was quick to bring up new linens. All-in-all, not the worst stay, but certainly not the most fantastic for how much money we paid. The location is hard to beat, but there are other 2-3 star hotels in this part of town that do the "bare bones" stay much better.
