The staff were very friendly, helpful and made you welcome. The room was clean, warm and spacious and the Hotel generally was clean and in a good state of repair. It is an excellent location for the city centre and for travel to surrounding locations being easy to access from outside the city. Plenty of car park space. The Barcelo Hotel was obviously a grand hotel in its day, and if you were "picky", there are a few areas which could do with a facelift. For all that, its on the doorstep of the Millenium Park, the food was good, and the staff very helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

We love the hotel,location and the staff are friendly. However one major moan we booked it because it allowed dogs to stay. I called two days before going to check everything was still ok with taking our dog (which we have done previously) only to find the New Manager had banned dogs from staying.I asked why but all we got was it was the new hotel managers […] decision. The hotel was conveniently located for what we needed. However the hotel I thought was in need of updating and refurbishment in areas. I have used Hotels.Com previously and paid more or less the same amount of money for the hotel stay, but have all been to a higher standard.

The staff were all lovely. Room was very nice & we were lucky to have a view of Cardiff castle. Breakfast had good choice. Overall the hotel was gorgeous . I would stay there again.

Got a twin when a double booked, staff couldn't keep up with hot food a breakfast, would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price, but had a very cheap deal, probably why

Perfect location and good clane room.Breakfast great and sfatt friendly. Room just needed a little bit of tlc but that is being picky and road a bit noisey. Overall a great convenient hotel central to cardiff shopping and castle.

Well, er, yes. Nice a friendly, clean ,convenient location, but it really does need some refurbishment.

After picking a barcelo hotel I thought I'd be getting a good quality hotel which I've been used to from a quality hotel group. The angel is perfectly positioned for any business or pleasure trip which I can't take away from the place. A very good size room. Excellent location right in the city. Buffet breakfast. Parking on site for £10 /night. Some noise from main road outside. A once obviously grand hotel now showing signs of being in need of a makeover. Overall happy with my stay and would recommend the hotel

Excellent price from hotels.com with breakfast included. Had a great stay in hotel, which was just lovely. Was able to park car for the entire stay in the hotel car park for price of £10 which was a bargain. Would like to stay again.

This once grand and elegant hotel set overlooking the walls the Cardiff Castle, awakens the image of times gone by with an elegant central staircase, decked at this time of year with garlands, twinkling lights and a Holiday tree. Although a bit in need of refurbishing as evidenced by thread bare rugs here and there and a bit of pealing wall paper, the […] overall kindness, friendliness and wish to make you feel at home as offered by the staff more than make up for the design deficits. With it's soaring ceilings, crown molding and fireplaces, the place is tidy, clean and there is always a smile and a kind word to greet you. I had 2 long stays and the staff allowed me to take a peek into several rooms to choose the one that suited me best. I always do stay here every time I come to town to attend University. Room was too noisy. Poorly maintained room and bathroom.

we stayed two nights in july 2011 at this hotel, we only booked a double room, and we were given an up grade to a fantastic room with seperate bedroom,bathroom and lounge with a table and four chairs, this was a real suprise to us, the hotel is in the centre for a lot of atractions, we will deffinatley go back to this hotel carole and steve

The hotel is ok, a bit old in places but comfortable enough. The room i stayed in -117 was terrible because there was a roof below outside my window that was full of seagulls that started schreeching and sqwaking at 4am!! And there was no double glazing.... I would try another room here, but make sure there is no place for seagulls to sit!!

This hotel requires much redecoration and refit it looks its age.

Great place to stay if you need accomodation near the millenium stadium, its about 200 yards. Otherwise nothing special, I wouldn't consider it a 4 star. The bed was the hardest, creakiest bed I have ever TRIED to sleep in. Gave breakfast a miss due to cost.

The hotel feelsa lttle tired once you get out of the very nice entrance area. The sash windows in the room did not close properly and sills and surrounds were very dirty due to the proximnity of the main road. On arrival, friendly staff upgraded us to a large room. Superb location, Cardiff Castle on one side and Cardiff Arms Park on the other. If you like good beer, there is a Wetherspoons just up the road; and as we were in the city centre, there are also plenty of Brains pubs nearby too. This used to be the international rugby players' hotel. Imagine, I […] might have slept in the same bed as JPR Williams or Gareth Edwards. This hotel was great, parking only a fiver, which they would let you use even after you have checked out. Just right for last minute shopping. I found the hotel very nice it is quite traditional in the lobby and corridors my room was slightly small at the back of the hotel overlooking the carpark so it was very quiet. The room was quite modern and well appointed bed was comfortable and there was air conditioning. I thought the bathroom looked quite new it was a nice big bath with a decent […] shower over fully tiled and very clean. Breakfast was good it was a buffet style there was plenty of choice cooked, or continental. The location of the hotel was another good point as it was a short walk form cardiff central and very close to the castle. We're a young couple who had decided to stay at The Angel after a christmas party, rather than get a taxi home, Room 125, was a corner room and I mean a corner. The decor was ok, tiles on bathroom floor were shabby and the bathroom suite looked like it had seen better days. The room was extremely warm - even turning off the radiator didn't help, we […] tried to open a window but they were nailed shut. Being on the corner of a very busy road, the traffic noise from 5am was loud - very loud, even with the secondary glazing it could be heard as clear as if the window was open. This hotel is vert tired and needs an up grade the staff were all verty plesant and helpfull Breakfast was a bit of a let down bacon has been out for ages not the much choice really if i was paying full rack rate i would of walked out this hotle is not a 4 star i have staied in nicer and better 3 stars

Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. We had a lovely stay here, in a great position, opposite Cardiff Castle, close to the city centre but quiet at night so you can sleep after being out and about all day.

The staff at this hotel are a real asset to the company. Whilst the hotel is "tired" and in need of refurbishment, all areas are clean, and bedrooms and bed are comfortable. Visit regularly for the conveniece of location and the staff attitude to guests.

The car park is rather small so get there early to make sure you get a space [chargable]. Stayed in room 117. Didn't know what was going on above us but for the first 4 hours sounded like a herd of elephants moving about. Informed at [the unimpressive] reception that it was people practicing dancing for a wedding reception. Admittedly room was very […] reasonably priced but should be described as 'budget/economy accommodation' [not as 'sale' price as I don't think you'd get much more for it]. in my wife's and I opinion as small with a bleak view of a flat roof overlooking the car park. It was the first time in 12 years since I returned to my home town with my Australian wife. The Angel hotel was always one of Cardiff's best hotels, however I was embarrassed, to see its decline. Unfortunately we were on the 3rd floor - at least we had a window, most rooms on this floor only had skylights. The room was clean but not as impressive as the foyer decor indicated. But it was a cheap rate and in a great location for visiting the O2, Cardiff Castle or the city centre.

Staff excellent, room was small, air conditioning ineffective. Breakfast was like a rugby scrum, insufficient food, long wait for replenishments, although good quality. No way a four star.

Wonderful location for shops and retaurants.Very noisey night club a few doors away.The hotel is rated 4 star but we think that should be reviewed as carpets old and thread bare on corridors.The bathroom could also do with total refurbishment

I spent two nights in this hotel. At check-in, it was fine. The room is big enough, and faces to the castle. The windows are too small, and can't be wide open. It made me feel like staying in a prison. The room is dark and toilet is old, but it is clean. The first breakfast was ok, but something made me disappointed. The cup on my table was very dirty. […] I told a staff. who wore blue shirt, which made me think he was a manager, that the cup was really dirty. He said sorry to me and gave me a clean one. I asked him, "Is this hotel 4 star hotel?' He said, "Yes." I said," But itis not like a 4 star hotel.. He said," You can't judge us only by cup." I said," Why can't I?" Every hotel can't garanteed everything make their guests satisfied, I can understand this. But the attitude of that man made me feel uncomfatable. He should appreciate for it, because we helped thm find their problems. When I came back to my room that evening, I found my friuts which I left in the room had gone. I don't know what happened, I rang the reception and reported it. She said she would send some fruits to me immidietely. And she did. But again, in a 4 star hotel, can they move guests' things without asking them? Also, when I wanted to go shower, I found no shower gel or shampoo in the bathroom. of course, theygave me when I asked for them. Two days, three unhappy things. Do I come agian? I had previously stayed at the Angel hotel and knew it would be an ideal place to stay for central Cardiff convenience. When we arrived we were greeted by very pleasant and helpful reception staff. Parking is limited at the hotel but the Receptionist did everything to ensure we had a space. The hotel ambience is very pleasant and all of the staff are […] friendly and eager to help. The room was clean and airy although paint was peeling from the bathroom ceiling. The only crticism I would have is that we had a room overlooking one of the main streets in Cardiff (opposite the Castle). We stayed on a Saturday night and it had been a hot day so we had to keep the windows open. Unfortunately it was incredibly noisy with drunk people shouting and screaming below us and sirens going past very frequently. We had to close the windows in the middle of the night but the noise was still very clear. Suffice to say we didn't get much sleep that night unfortunately! The staff were very helpful and efficient. Check-in and out was done quickly and with a smile. The housekeeping staff were friendlty and were happy to give extra pillows and towels when you asked. The room was one of the modernised ones and was fine. I think perhaps the hotel needs to be regraded, as it doesn't have the finish and polish of a 4 star, […] but its still fine. Good points - everything spotlessy clean, good sized room, big wardrobe with safe, comfy bed. Things that weren't quite right, but made me smile - there was plenty of lights, but they were all connected up in a stange way, it was a bit like the Krypton Factor to try to get the right combination on. They also need to put a bit of WD40 on the doors in the corridor to stop them squeaking. They were a little bit miserly with the milk. Room for improvement (and these are the bits that make it not 4-star for me) - shower curtain was old with paint splashes all over, shaving mirror wobbled, hook on back of bathroom door wobbled, the plastering and paint was a little shoddy in places. Overall, I would stay again, but only if I had a good deal. It worked out cheaper than the Travelodge in town (especially as we didn't have breakfast included, and just went to one of the many many cafes nearby) and was perfectly adequate. Helpful but unfriendly staff. Shower didn't work properly as half the water came through the bath tap. one towel for two people. Room ok size but small by comparison to others I have stayed in. Best thing is the location.
