It is not elegant, but it gets the job done. I asked for a room in the far back, away from the freeway. I am sensitive to noise, but it was quite enough. At the included breakfast I enjoyed making my own waffles. Ok, my standards are not all that high.

Friday night guards checked to make sure were a guest of the hotel and not in transit to the Denny's. Not a good vibe. Happy with breakfast. Slow to refil room coffee. Had trouble with ADA room Assignment - but worked it out. Very convenient to Amtrak.

My wife and I always like to stay here when visiting in Sacramento. Its as close as you can get to Old Sac. Downtown, and Shopping, all in walking distance. The rooms are pretty basic but you get your moneys worth with the Pillowtop beds, in-room refrigerator and microwave, and continetal breakfast. Parking is free and always available, never crowded. […] Hotel condition is a little old and could use a remodle soon but for the price its not bad at all. Its better than most hotle conditions I've seen in San Francisco. The only real down fall is you get a fair amount of noise from the surrounding streets. We got a 'smoking' room. As expected there was a lingering aroma.

Hotel itself was in decent condition but not great, for example the bathroom had newer tile on the floor and around the tub, but old wallpaper on the wall, and old toilet and tub. The breakfast was better than average and had sausage, eggs and hash brown along with the regular items. GREAT staff. Rooms left a lot to be desired. Need some major renovations and updating. Would classify this as a budget hotel.

Great location, friendly staff but housekeeping is slow to clean the rooms! But it's in walking distance to Old Town and the Capital

1.) Hotel is dated, no apparent modernization or upgrades. 2.) Walked to Denny's next door for dinner - transients and undesirables hanging out there. 3.) Amtrack train - is very close & noisy. If you want a good night sleep, this is not the place to stay. 4.) Continental breakfast was OK. 5.) Room was clean. 6.) No remote for the dated TV.

We used the Vagabond on a ten hour layover on a train trip. The hotel was conveniently located and within walking distance of the station. We visited Old Town Sacremento and had dinner at Fats(?) and got some rest. the hotel served our needs very well

I wouldn't recommend for a family stay. I think that its a good place for sports travelers.

My wife could not make it, but we come here at least every year. The pool was being used in the afternoon and that was the first time I saw people swimming in March. The temperature was 70 degees for several days in succession. The trains' whistle was always fun to hear, night and day. The continental breakfast was as good as always. I see some employees […] repeatedly in the dining room , helping the guests. My room looked like it was newly carpeted. The comfort of my room was outstanding. The location of the Amtrak building is just across the street, so it is very easy if you are taking the train. The surrounding neighborhood would be shopping in the mall and/or Old Sacramento. Small but well-appointed, the Vagabond fills my needs while visiting Sacramento. It's replaced my use of higher-end hotels and helps me cut costs for business trips. Staff is friendly and courteous.

While the location seems convenient based on its proximity to the freeway and old town Sacramento, and the rooms were clean enough, the darn trains roll through the area blasting their horns ALL NIGHT every hour or few. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper too but jeez, this was a little much. The breakfast was OK, nothing special. Workout room consisted of a […] half set of free weights, bench, cycle, stair climb and treadmill. If you have to stay here, ask for a room on the pool (south) side of the building... This hotel is extremely close to Interstate 5 and therefore very noisy. The freeway did quiet down later in the evening but some of the noise could have been lessened with some weatherstripping and a sweep on the door. Overall it is a great value. Convenient location walking distance to restaurants and shopping with nice comfortable rooms and free breakfast. The only down side is our room was near the front and there was street noise. But get a room in the back and that isn't a problem.

My fiancee and I were just passing through and wanted an inexpensive, convenient, clean place to stay and that is exactly what we got. It is near all the major freeways, near great restaurants, the staff was friendly and the parking was free. I was also pleasantly surprised by the more updated bedspread instead of the polyester one I was expecting. […] The only downsides were a slightly hard bed and the noise from the freeway, but that is what you get when you want freeway accessible. This hotel was adequate for one night. However, the bathtub had hair in it and the shower head was lower than my head.. and i'm 5'7. This place needs a major makeover.

This was a very good value and convenient to Old town Sacramento. About 400 yds of easy walking. Being close to the freeway and train station, the noise level was minimual and didn't keep us from sleeping. I will use this hotel next time we go to Sacramento for the weekend and recommend it very highly. Not the upper class, but very good value and a […] good breakfast. Everthing is within walking distance...fun fun fun

Two major problems: #1 the plumbing was bad. The water during a shower did not drain. The toilet in the room next to us did not flush due to a faulty mechanism. Who want to take the lid off and manually flush the toilet. #2 Noise!!! Even with ear plugs, noise from the numerous freeways were waking us up all through the night. I stayed here out of convenience for an event I was attending in Sacramento. A last minute decision, but one I was glad I made. I've come to Sac for business over the years, but never thought of staying here...always at a higher end hotel. Not anymore. Clean, bright, with nice rooms. As advertised, the staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly. The hotel is very near the Amtrak station and old town Sacramento. The breakfast includes not only the usual cold cereal, bagels and coffee, but also hot scrambled eggs, hashed potatoes, sausage, and waffles. Recommended.

I've stayed here a few times, and must admit that for the money, it's been a very good experience. I visit the area and chose the hotel for convenience and price; it's clean, comfortable and one I would certainly use again. The staff is great; I enjoyed a hot breakfast in a nicely appointed room (again, considering the price for the room, I was delightfully […] surprised). There's a small gym, business area with computers and printer. I've stayed in Sacramento a number of times for business (meaning I'm out and about and not hanging out in a hotel room), and had never used this hotel during business trips. Hotel is steps away to old sacramento and Westfield Downtown Plaza shopping. Right off the Interstate and supper quik to get back on. Friendly staff and service. The only negative thing about this hotel is that it could use a remodel in the near fure. Everything works. TV is large flat panel LCD, refregerator, microwave, standard hotel room size.

Hotel was old but clean. Pictures on line did not match condition of hotel. Located by amtrrak train station was a bit nosie at night. Hotel was located by freeway which was very covenant. Hotel ok for one night stay but not any more than that

There was road construction that started around 5am which no one could sleep due to backup beepers, and the breakfast lounge could use some more tables, unless you like to eat standing up. The location is nice and close to old sac.

best secret in town: has everything incl. heated pool grt jacuzzi, very good bkfast; room very good.

The room was nice and clean. There was a complementary full buffet breakfast every day, Eggs, waffles, coffee, juice, milk, cereal and bagles. A short walk to Old Sacramento where there was tourist shopping and restaurants. It is right off the freeway but the freeway traffic sound did not disturb us. There was no charge for our small dog. At first glance, we didn't expect much. The check in was quite fast. When we opened the door to the room, it smelled good. I wasn't ready for that. Nice surprise. The next morning, breakfast was great. Good choices and quality. Another nice surprise. We definitely would stay there again.

very noisey and hard beds

The hotel is located close to old town but also close to where the homelss hang out. In addition, they do not provide warm blankets, they have very thin covers that are too short. We had a heater that kept us warm but it was loud and made me feel as if the air was too dry to breath. I had a horrible night sleep at this hotel. The list of nor functioning […] items are the TV remote, Elevator, and soda maching. Overall I would say..don't stay here. Spend a few more $$ if you want to be able to sleep in your hotel room. Comfortable bed, but several things in room weren't working properly & bath tub drain was plugged up. Good waffles, but not enough tables. Nowhere to sit except out little, stuffy room. Not worth what we paid.
