Good hotel with reasonable price through Hotels.com Friendly staff, comfortable bed and amenities

Hotel bathroom was not as clean as should be expected. Room with king bed was small, but quite adequate. Free breakfast was a bit repetitive. Concierge service was good, and access to free trolley (CARTA) to downtown was a plus. We paid too much through Hotels.com versus just booking though the hotel directly.

We had a great stay at this hotel; it seems like an older hotel, but it has been updated nicely. The room was a little bit small but still fine for what we needed in a short 2 night stay. The pool outside was nice, but not heated. The staff was great, especially the man who had Engineering Staff on his work shirt... I think he had a beard & he went […] above & beyond to help me with a computer issue. The only thing I didn't like is that a young man at the front counter told an older couple from out of town that he did not recommend the carriage ride as a thing to do in Charleston, and I previously lived in Charleston and have taken many carriage rides and I am a huge advocate that the carriage ride is the #1 top thing any visitor should ABSOUTELY do when visiting Charleston. I don't think that young man should ever steer people away from the carriage rides. We even took one while we were there and it was as delightful as it's always been. It's good for young and old people, whether you are there to party or relax. It fits everyone. The hotel location isn't really walking distance friendly to the market, which is the "happening" area of downtown, but you can get the bicycle taxi guy to come pick 2 people up for a small fee, no need for a regular taxi. It's also nice that they have a restaurant/bar onsite. I liked this hotel for the price. If you stay here, don't pay any attention to the young buck at the counter. Take a carriage ride! We've never slept better at any hotel! Even though it is near a major highway, we hardly noticed much noise. Hotel staff are courteous and helpful. We needed a hotel for one night while passing through Charleston to visit my daughter at school. I usually stay over the bridge in Mt. Pleasant. The hotels are newer and less expensive. This was a decent, relatively inexpensive hotel close to town. The room was quiet and large although a bit rundown. The front desk was very busy when we arrived ...it all felt quite hectic and so there was a wait, but everyone was polite and cheerful. I had thrown my leg out during our ride to the hotel and so was dismayed to see that access was by […] steep stairs. The only really great thing about this hotel is the location. The room was old with drop down ceilings in the bathroom, the air conditioning unit was sparking in the room when we checked in, there is no room service and the restaurant at the hotel was awful they didn't even have small things like bread and pizza dough. We stayed in Charleston for the Southeastern Wildlife Exhibition and hotel rooms were at a premium, both in availability and rate. Best Western is a older facility thathas been refurbished. First room had been used by someone who had illegally smoked in the room. Staff should have noticed this, but they did not. They moved us to another room. The hotel front desk lady lindsea was not friendly or helpful. She was like a robot with no personality. I was so excited to be in Charleston and she killed my mood. We called for a late check out and she said no. The place was okay but first impression from front desk is key. Even to help with getting a taxi seemed like too much to ask for. If you are looking to visit Charleston, and want to do some sight seeing, please note that the only things within a brief walk are going to be fast food restaurants. A short drive will take you anywhere you will want to see in Charleston, but you have to be willing to drive. As far as the hotel, it was adequate. The room was clean for sure, but the […] beds have those old-style bed spreads that you will want to strip from the bed as soon as you enter. The rest of the room was clean and adequate for us, but fairly smaller than we are used to. this is not downtown or close to the great historic area, it is on the intersection of 2 big interstate type highways, the tattered carpets add to the allure

This hotel was great for the price, not a bad breakfast, clean room, courteous staff. The location is a very easy drive downtown, but not walking distance to much of anything. The shuttle stops rather early, so cars or cabs are a must if you plan on spending time in the downtown area at night.

Stayed there as part of a large group to run a Marathon. The hotel would not let any of us have a later checkout. None of us will stay there again. Large group.

Listed as a Downtown hotel, its 2.6 miles for the heart of the city and not a safe area to walk back late at night. The maids had a problem with cleaning bathroom floors and leaving soap, towels and anything else you might think of. Shuttle service was OK until late at night and then again they got to busy to bother.

It was an adequate hotel, but did not live up to the standard of Hiltons that were stayed in on our trip to Florida. It was outside of the downtown area, but easy enough to drive into town. The staff were very sympathetic to our sick dog. There was a large pet fee for the dog (even if he had not been ill)

The a/c system is exceptionally loud. We had to turn it off at night do we could sleep

Very clean and comfortable. Convenient to downtown and historical district. Staff was extremely helpful suggesting interesting things to do and see in the limited time we had to visit.

This typical Best Western is very close (a few hundred yards) from the free shuttle bus stop that will take you right into downtown Charleston, and other places. We felt safe and it was convenient. Breakfast was typical, with waffles, biscuits, sausage, juices and cereal. We did fine with it. Clean eating area. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, […] free parking in a large lot, we had a view of the marina and the highway. Still, very quiet. Our only issue was that the housekeeper forgot to leave us any bath towels on the second day; when we called the front desk they told us to come and get them. I was all ready for bed and didn't go down. Hmmm. Someone brought our bill, but we never received any towels. With that said, we were pleased with checkin, our room, the facilities and the access to computers. Wish we had taken advantage of happy hour in the bar. Also a full dinner-time restaurant in the hotel. We would return as the price was good and we typically trust a Best Western hotel. Shuttle Bus was a big plus for us. We chose this hotel due to it's advertised downtown location and a good rate. It was not really "downtown" near all the attractions. You still need to drive or take a cab/shuttle. The king room (our first room) was barely big enough to fit our two suitcases in. It was extremely small (besides the bed). We asked to change to a larger room and were given […] one with 2 queens - much better. The staff was very helpful this way and did not upcharge us. Bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. Free breakfast was good and fresh with hot and cold choices. The hallways, doors, etc all looked very dated. They were clean, but needed updating. This was marked a 3-star hotel, but I would say it should be more of a 2 or 2.5. If you are looking for a place to crash and not spend much time at, this place is OK, but it is not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. Great hotel if you have pets there was a reasonable charge for pets. Super nice staff and the breakfast was AWESOME best breakfast I have had in a hotel.

I loved the hotel itself and was very comfortable in the room. However, I thought it would be a little more conveniently located to downtown. It did have a shuttle service that only charged $5/person to take us to the restaurant we had reservations at.....so it worked but we had thought we could just walk......so a little added cost, we weren't exp […] ecting. I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights after 2 nights at the Embassy Suites downtown, so I may be a little biased. When I first arrived, I didn't think it looked much like the clearly edited photos online. But the staff is super nice and went out of their way to make sure everything was okay. My biggest gripes are that housekeeping kept knocking on my door […] early in the morning (I would have put up a do not disturb sign if there had been one) and that the fire alarm went off one of the mornings. I wasn't sure (along with the rest of the guests on my floor) whether it was the real deal, so I started to gather some of my important belongings when I heard some loud talking outside my window. I noticed some maintenance workers around a huge drain gushing water outside. When I went to leave my room, I spotted a maid who said it was the alarm was triggered by those workers and it was nothing to worry about. She acted as if it happens on a regular basis? It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't woken me up AND if it had been the type of alarm that beep, not put out a never-ending shrill sound for the next 10 minutes. I almost left in my pajamas just to escape the agony when they finally got the alarm turned off. Overall though, I would stay here around if the price was right. The staff suggested arestaurant each evening depending on our choice of faire. We were never dissapointed. They marked a map each day for us to find our way. The buffet breakfast each morning varied and included in the rate.

Stayed at the Best Western Downtown Hotel, Charleston for two nights. Found the hotel and specifically the bedrooms to be very clean and well furnished, congratulations to housekeeping. The young ladies on reception were most pleasant and very helpful and knowledgeable about restaurants, the historic sights and the free trolley service.

Upon arriving there were several people in the lobby waiting to get into their rooms but because of the rooms not being available (Late check outs) laundry running behind I ended up waiting over an hour before getting checked in and there was a Young Lady there Pregnant who had been waiting for about 2 hours....

Hotel personel was fantastic very helpful with with helping us make reservations for attractions in town.

This hotel was ok. Not close to downtown - had to pay for cab fare to and from. Disappointed - only 3 small pillows on king size bed and when we requested more they said they didn't have any. Should have stayed at the Best Western King Charles Inn.

nothing wrong with the hotel but its not downtown. the only reason anyone should stay here is if all the hotels that are actually downtown are full.

We have a small 8lb dog but were forced to get a pet friendly room. Not 30 min after entering room our small dog started scratching and we noticed numerous fleas moving on him. Our dog is an inside dog and has never had a problem with fleas prior to this stay. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but left at 7 the next morning. Also, hotel pool is set […] up so small children can not enjoy it. Shallowest part of the pool is 4 feet so our 4 year old who is learning to swim could not touch bottom and did not have any stairs to stand on. Also, north facing rooms overlook the worst sections of downtown Charleston and provide no scenic view. I would gladly pay $50 more dollars and stay at a better hotel located in a better area. I was not pleased at all with this stay. When I booked the room for 5 people, I called the hotel and asked for a rollaway. Keep in mind that this was three a month before our travel. The person I talked to said it would be no problem, and would put a note in the computer. When we arrived, we were told that all the rollaways were taken. I talked to […] the lady about my call and rollaway reservation, and was given a shrug and half cocked look of "sorry". I sent an email to the manager and she said she would look into it. I never heard back from her. The location is easy access to highways, but not the greatest for getting into Historic Charleston if you don't have a car.
